Remarks & Notes
Lost and Found. This little 0-4-0 Funkey diesel shunter was previously owned by South African Breweries in Cape Town and was thought to have been scrapped, when they replaced it with a new Funkey in 1990. It was “rediscovered” about four years ago by a Cape Town based railfan. The locomotive is quite unique in that it is the first proper shunting locomotive to have been built by Funkey for surface rail, their previous loco’s all being built for underground mining operations. It now belongs to Moutons Transport & Civil in Vredenburg and is seen here sitting on a siding at Morreesburg, where it is used for shunting Transnet Freight Rail wagons that are loaded with crushed stone, transported by road from a nearby quarry.
