Remarks & Notes
Built by the Wagner Palace Sleeping Car Company in 1882, the CF&I Mine Rescue Car came to western steel giant in 1923 after being purchased from the U.S. Bureau of Mines. The CF&I would use this heavyweight to as a mobile classroom for teaching mine safety training to the numerous miners working along the Front Range in Colorado. The intent of this program was to help reduce mine accidents occurring at that time. This car is somewhat of a relic since it is the only known wood mine rescue car in the lower 48 states and thus has been listed on the Colorado Historical Society’s List of Historic Properties in 1998.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
