Clinchfield GP38 2001 sits in the yard in Spartanburg, SC. One year after the date of this photo, the Clinchfield would no longer exist as it was rolled into the massive Seaboard System. Despite the integration, the Clinchfield left an indelible mark on Appalachian railroading, and its line is still a main artery through the rugged Blue Ridge Mountains on the expansive CSX system. 35mm slide from my collection, photographer unknown.
