Remarks & Notes
The steepest grade on the former Ann Arbor, Boon Hill, was always a struggle for southbound trains. At about 2%, the three GP35's fight hard to bring their train up the hill, however, once clear of the hill, it was an easy ride into Selma Yard in Cadillac, where trains would work before heading south to Owosso and eventually Toledo, OH. This portion of the former Ann Arbor is still in operation by current owner Great Lakes Central, but the line only extends to Yuma, MI., about 10 miles from this point, as the line was cut off from Yuma north after the end of ferry service and the closing of the yard in Elberta. The only purpose of the line now is to reach a sand pit that is in Yuma. 35mm slide from my collection, photographer unknown.
