A family enjoying a late summer afternoon walk in Freeport pauses to let this westbound Brunswick local pass. This was just a couple months before Amtrak's Downeaster service was extended through Freeport to Brunswick. Evidence of the impending heavy rail traffic Amtrak will bring can be seen in the brand new crossing signals with electronic bells, LEDs, and gates replacing the previous set up of flashers, a metal bell, and no gates.
