As the temperatures continued to drop and snow began to accumulate atop the rail and surrounding ground, nearly uniform in length icicles have formed off the head of rail during this very cold day in the South. This wintry phenomenon only occurred on the gauge side of the track because of the typical inward inclination of the rail that is always found in tangent sections of track.
