Union Pacific SD70ACe 1996 arrived early in the morning of January 26th, 2014, to pick up UP "Big Boy" 4014 from the Los Angeles County Fairplex, where the 4014 had been on display for over 50 years. UP 1996 crept up to the big 4-8-8-4 and ... the couplers were not aligned (because the joint was to be made on a slight curve). So, the two engines separated, and crews adjusted the couplers. On the second attempt, at 1:32 am - Success! Engineer Kevin Toohey gives a thumbs-up from the cab to alert the crew on the ground (and, most likely, also the hundreds of on-lookers) that the two engines were now coupled. Before long, the 1996 would pull the big Alco onto Metrolink trackage, the next step on its journey to Cheyenne, Wyoming in summer 2014.
