Pressing toward Log Cabin. Having left the really deep snows behind them at White Pass, the rotary fleet has been cruising north through British Columbia and a snow pack that is mostly just a couple of feet deep. The rotary goes through that like gasoline through a funnel. Occasionally however, they encounter some seriously deep drifts, like this one, within sight of the Klondike Highway Crossing. When this happens the forward progress slows to a crawl and sometimes to a complete stop when the plow stalls out. Superintendent Ed Hanousek had hoped that his crew might make it all the way to Bennett Station on this beautiful day, but these pesky drifts would prove to all that no plan survives contact with the enemy. By late afternoon, all of this extra plowing had used up more water than planned, and the rotary fleet was forced to retreat back to Fraser Station to spend the night.
