Remarks & Notes

Due to extreme cold and snowy conditions across the Chicago Metro area earlier in the week, Amtrak's Cardinal operated with Superliner equipment on both trains No. 51-5 and No. 50-8 along its route from Chicago to Washington D.C. The consist of Amtrak's Capitol Limited was assigned to the Cardinal providing it with an extra three cars. Those additional cars came in the form of two extra sleepers, a full diner, and lounge car. The Cardinal once operated with Superliner equipment in the early 2000's, but in later years Amtrak reassigned am fleet coaches to the tri-weekly train.
