With the air temperature hovering around -15F, the Conway Scenic Railroad brings its former Canadian National Switcher #7470 out of the North Conway Roundhouse and onto the air-driven turntable. The mission for this day was the 7th annual "Steam in the Snow" excursion for the Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts (MBRRE). Although a few trips over the years have been run with no snow at all on the ground, the 2014 event not only featured nearly 2 feet of relatively fresh powder, but air temperatures and wind-chill values that were downright arctic. Unfortunately, if you haven't attended one of these events, it may be a while before you get another chance. The 7470's Form 4 expires in the middle of 2014, and it is not known at this time when or if the engine will return to service.
