| Some of the remaining locomotives that plied the rails for Erie Mining Co. and later LTV Steel Mining Co. sit in what once the bustling pellet yard of the massive taconite plant. The vegetation has returned to reclaim the land that's been sitting dormant since the mine closed in 2001. The two Alco's have moved on. One to nearby Mesabi Nugget and the other to a mine in Michigan. The fire prevention tank car has been cut up as well as the string of ore cars. The F unit 9 along with three B units remain on the property, |
