Remarks & Notes
This heritage special train from Wellington to Paekakariki is marking exactly 150 years of the opening of first public railway in New Zealand. Ja 1271 was built at Hillside, Dunedin c. 1955-56, among the very last few locomotives built in New Zealand. The train is leaving Tawa 1 Tunnel and is about to enter Tawa 2 which at about 3 miles (4.4Km) is the longest on the North Island Main Trunk between Wellington and Auckland. Wellington abounds in tunnels on both railroads and roads.
