Remarks & Notes
Dawn at Omaha Shops
As the Nebraska sky brightens to signal another summer day, the work at Union Pacific’s Omaha Shops continues on. Thirty-eight locomotives are visible in this view, dominated by 8 GP9s and 7 GP30s. But also seen are 5 SW10 switchers, along with a pair each of GP30B, SD24, SD40-2, DDA40X, and C30-7 (the one on the far right has a smashed-in cab from a recent accident) models. Also lurking is a Missouri Pacific GP38-2, a GP35, a GP40X, and of course, front and center, E9A No. 951. Not to be forgotten in the background is Big Boy No. 4023. This entire 100-acre shop complex, a major overhaul and maintenance facility for the railroad, was closed in 1988 and demolished soon after. You wouldn’t recognize this site today, as it is the location of CenturyLink Center Omaha arena and convention center.

A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)

There are times when many engines, cars or cabooses are concentrated in a location. Such sites are for storage, economic reasons, active power needs or for rebuilding. For others, wear and tear have brought their usefulness to and end.
