As the idling exhaust of two C40-9W's silhouettes the single car loader at Dan's Branch industrial track, two mining officials perform a physical inspection of the empty train prior to its loading along the east side of Eckman Yard. The dreary wintertime atmosphere compliments Appalachian railroading and the N&W's unique mining operations along the Pokey mainline that still remain today.
