Remarks & Notes
Moonlight and stainless-steel
Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Electro-Motive Division E5 No 9911-A was built in 1940 with stainless-steel fluting and side panels, and still glistens under a full moon at Burlington, Wisconsin, on the night of September 29, 1993. The next day, the speedster will pull the Nebraska Zephyr articulated trainset on a round-trip to Neenah on the Wisconsin Central, in a somewhat rare early trip outside the Illinois Railway Museum. The locomotive is the sole surviving E5, and is a highlight of the IRM’s collection.
