Remarks & Notes
Eastbound at Big Horn. A D&RGW Mudhen drags her mixed freight consist around the sweeping curve just west of the Big Horn Wye, near MP 299. Although westbound freights of any significant length often had helper engines when passing this location on the climb to Cumbres Pass, the eastbounds could typically handle large cuts of cars with just a single locomotive, since they were just drifting much of the time on the descent to Antonito.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
