Remarks & Notes
Steamscape: Cascade Creek. The Denver & Rio Grande Western's Locomotive 463 takes mixed freight east over the 408 ft long trestle crossing Cascade Creek, just a mile and half from the water stop at Osier, Colorado.

The 463 is a K-27 Locomotive and one of 15 of this class built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works back in 1903. This engine is a 2-8-2 Mikado with a tractive effort of 27,000 lbs. The 463 is one of just 2 survivors of the class and was recently restored to operation by the combined forces of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec. The restoration took several years, but the locomotive is now back in service, pulling special excursions and occasionally serving as a helper locomotive on regular passenger trains running to Cumbres Pass. Unlike the other C&TS Engines, she carries the D&RGW "Toilet Seat" herald and is a great choice for power on photo freights....like the one seen here.
