Colorful Cherry Hill. A westbound, steam-powered mixed freight passes and eastbound passenger train at Groff's Grove, near the tiny Cherry Hill Station in Ronks, PA.
Sure, steam-powered trains have been passing here for decades, but how often do you see them in light like this? Two-train operation at the Strasburg is normally limited to the mid-summer time-frame, during the peak tourist season, when the mid-day light is pretty harsh. For a few years, during the mid and late 2000s however, the railroad ran a special event on the first weekend in November, in honor of America's veterans. On that weekend, the line ran two trains an hour from 11 AM until just before sunset, affording an opportunity to see both passenger and freight consists in sweet autumn light. For the 2010 event, former Canadian National Mogul #89 was featured on the mixed and the former Great Western #90 did the honors with the passenger train.
