| In the 1980's a number of "Steam Safari" railfan tours were operated by SARtravel, the travel division of the South African Railways. One such tour was arranged by SARtravel's New York office in October 1984 for the U.S. market. On the first morning of the tour, a class 24 2-8-4 teams up with a class GMAM 4-8-2 + 2-8-4 garratt to perform a spectacular photo runby on the stiff climb up the reverse curves leading out of the valley of the Soetmelkrivier (sweet milk river). |
