Remarks & Notes
Milk train from Oringi to Palmerston North exits Tunnel 2 Palmerston North-Gisborne Line. The line through the Gorge was built with hand tools and is a mini version of Fraser Canyon in Canada. The highway on opposite side hangs on bridge sections built out from the steep side.

Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
