Short line carrier Minnesota Northern takes advantage that the leasing company, Independent Locomotive Service (ILSX), is a major part-owner of the company. Minnesota Northern has a roster of four four-axle locomotives (910, 1356, 1380, 1383), but often uses six-axle power from Independent Locomotive Service to take its Warroad Local over from Dakota Junction north of Thief River Falls back to Crookston via Erskine. Here the local passes through the small farming community of Brooks along the Canadian Pacific Detroit Lakes subdivision.
