| I think if a vote were taken, the UP Big Boy would be voted as the best looking big steam locomotive of all time. It has a nice big tapered boiler mated to a long unjacketed smoke box on one end and a big roomy cab on the other. All appurtenances hanging off the machine are the right size being not too big nor too small. It sits on superbly symmetrical machinery. (4 wheel leading and trailing trucks balance against 8 drivers better than 2 wheel trucks) In my opinion, all these elements come together better than any other big steamer. |
