| Ribblesdale is the beautiful limestone valley that climbs away from Settle towards Ribblehead. Locomotives face a hard and steady climb as the railway crosses and re-crosses the river Ribble on the eastern section of the Settle and Carlisle Railway. The usual vantage point at Helwith Bridge is from the bridge, but equally impressive is the view from track side.
