Concluding the first excursion of the day, Steam Into History's Locomotive #17 "York" rolls past the old railroad station in downtown New Freedom, PA.
Originally constructed during the Civil War era by the Northern Central Railroad, this station building has been enlarged and rebuilt at least a couple of times over the past century and a half. The station saw both passenger and freight traffic all the way into the early 1970s before the line through New Freedom was abandoned by what was then the Penn Central. The old station building now houses a restaurant and a small museum, and is not part of the Steam Into History (SIH) operation. The train you see departs from a platform just across the street from the SIH Headquarters, which is about 2 blocks south of the location depicted here.
