Remarks & Notes
Soda ash is transported by Botswana Railways from the Botswana Ash mine at Sua Pan, to Mafikeng in South Africa, where Transnet Freight Rail takes over to continue the journey to Johannesburg. Seen making their way across the savannah scrubland that characterizes this part of the North West province, these six ageing class 34 GE U26C’s are heading east from Mafikeng with their train of 48 loaded wagons of soda ash, approaching the R49 road bridge just west of the small village of Ottoshoop. Photo taken during Tanago's 2013 South Africa tour.
