Although the last train through Utah's Marysvale Canyon vanished by 1972, the scenic splendor and history of this area continued to draw fans of the D&RGW. Standing on top of the Eagle Rock Tunnel, this perspective captures the changing of the seasons along the waters of the Sevier River 122.6 miles south of Thistle where the Marysvale Branch connected to the main. By the early 1970s, the gold mines had played out and the bark of Rio Grande SD7s and SD9s were gone. Crews from A&K Railroad Materials dismantled the Marysvale Branch in its entirety late in 1986 into early 1987, leaving behind a trail of dust and memories through the canyon of what once was a lifeline to the mines of Piute County.
