Nestled in the trees near 'old town', Union Pacific Railroad's tiny freight depot at Midvale survives another day in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. When the nearby United States Smelter was in full swing, the little building was a hub of activity for the local agency. The station was connected to UP's Provo Subdivision mainline on a two mile spur from Atwood Junction near Murray. I would later find out the tiny structure was demolished to make way for a new team track loading dock six days after the photo was taken. Kodachrome Transparency exposed when the photographer was age 12 with a Russian made Cosmic 35 viewfinder camera.

Oh the stories these special buildings could tell. Originally the brains of the rails they monitored, working to insure effecient rail service for our nation! A tribute!
