This photographic pacing run of NKP No. 765 lasted 131 seconds and was one of the greatest thrill rides of many in my entire life. It was over in a blink and just like a kid at the merry-go-round, I want to do it again and again! This 1944 Lima Locomotive built machine, owned by the Fort Wayne Historical Society of the eponymous city in Indiana, is in charge of Norfolk Southern railroad's first public steam excursion in many years. All the seats, including the extra fare ones, sold out in a few days or hours. The excursion was a round trip from Lewistown PA to Galitzin PA over the Norfolk Southern's Pittsburg Division, née the Pennsylvania Railroad's famed Middle Division. The public owes a big thanks to Norfolk Southern for the courage and enterprise to do something this expensive and complicated while doing it all so smoothly. In particular, congratulations go to the all-volunteer Fort Wayne Historical Society for the adroitness of a big job superbly well done.
Pace and pan shots of trains from on the ground or in the air. If you're not in the locomotive cab or on-board the train, it's the next best thing to being there.
