A manned signal box, a manual level crossing, armstrong levers, and semaphores -- it was a long way for this American lad of Irish descent to get to Tipperary, but it was absolutely worth the journey to witness railroad signalling the way it used to be, still in service on Ireland's 5'-3" gauge railways. (My great-great-great-grandfather emigrated to the US from the Glen of Aherlow, nestled just on the other side of the ridge south of Tipperary.)
