Street running! Well, not really, but Denver and Rio Grande Western GP30 No. 3011 is on its way to the Colorado railroad Museum on the streets. With no outside rail connection, the locomotive was temporarily stored at the Coors Brewery complex, which has its own railroad, and then trucked the short distance to the museum. On the afternoon of August 11, 2004, No. 3011 is slowly turning through the intersection of McIntyre Street and West 44th Avenue. The van in the left turn lane was well advised to back up quite a bit with the big semi’s arrival! A man is riding the top of the locomotive to lift assorted wires and stoplights to clear the top of the engine. In a mile or so, the semi will be stopped in front of CRM, ready to unload the museum’s GP30. The OMLX reporting marks are from the previous owner OmniTrax, who graciously donated the Rio Grande locomotive to CRM. It’s going to take a bit of work to get the 3011 restored, but it will make a great display of second-generation Rio Grande motive power when finished.
