Morning milk run. The brakemen on the rear of the train are already winding on the hand brakes as a southbound WW&F mixed slows for a stop at tiny Alna Center Station. The presence of the Turner Centre Dairy Car behind the locomotive means this particular train will be stopping frequently to gather up milk cans from local dairy farms, which are destined for the Turner Creamery in Wiscasset, just a few miles ahead. On this warm summer morning, the Turner Car Attendant has perhaps the best job on the railroad. While the rest of the crew is sweating in the hot sun, he's enjoying the ride through the Sheepscot Valley in the cool comfort of his company's reefer. This reefer even has a window, so he can enjoy the local scenery.
