Crank up the heat. The Strasburg Railroad's night hostler "dials up the thermostat" with a shovelful of the coal to keep the engine house bearable on a chilly February evening. Although this is the 21st century, you won't find any electric heaters in this place. The "house" at Strasburg is heated in the same fashion as steam sheds have been since the beginning. Strategically positioned coal stoves supplement whatever heat the crew might get from having a hot engine in the building, and when the locos are cold, or out working, these little stoves are the only thing the crew has to take the edge off the winter chill.
