As fall colors approach their peak for the 2012 season, an eastbound coal drag passes the Hawks Nest Dam, struggling upgrade over wet, leaf covered rail through the scenic New River Gorge. It's a long, stiff pull through the New River Gorge for 150 car coal trains, but the scenery in October is nothing short of spectacular for train crews, offering a perspective not often witnessed by the average tourist.
