Amtrak oddballs in the shadow of NY's Capital skyline. An Amtrak California bilevel, MP15DC and a P32AC-DM gather in the small yard north of the Rensselaer Amtrak station. The P32AC-DM, AMTK 709, is on the head end of a train set to be used on a run to New York Penn Station. The MP15DC (ex P&LE 1591, blt 5-1975) is a Rensselaer based switcher and the Amtrak California bilevel coach CDTX 8005, Kern River, was pulled off the end of Amtrak 48 (Lake Shore Limited) on 3-9-2013. Car is suppose to be heading for interchange to CP in Albany and a trip to Hornell, NY. This car was built by Morrison Knudsen in 1996. The prominent buildings in the background are Empire Statye Plaza with the NYS Museum on the left and the Corning Tower in the middle.
