Midday "God-beams" lift the curtain of darkness on the seldom-seen back half of the Nevada Northern Engine House, revealing some of the museum pieces that "need a little work". Closest on the right is the tender of Consolidation #81, a hefty Baldwin freight engine that has not run since the demise of steam operations on the original NN. She's been the engine house queen forever. Tucked away in the center, behind the coal stove, is Alco RS-2 #105. The 105 did operate on the winter photo shoots until a few years ago, but has been sidelined due to mechanical issues. Back against the far wall, the steam tender lettered #21 is left over from a long-since-scrapped 4-6-0. It now serves as the tender for the museum's Rotary Snow Plow B, which is hidden in the darkness in front of it. Although the rotary has been confined to quarters for years, a cosmetic restoration was done in 2013, and she was used in the winter photo shoots. As you look around this place, you'll see an eclectic mix of things that clearly belong....and some things that don't. Yes, that is a washing machine in the distance at the far left. Go figure.
