Cheltenham Race Week is one of the largest events in horse racing in the U.K.,attracting many thousands of people. The Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway help transport a lot of these, having a station conveniently situated at the racecourse itself. Here, one of the special "race trains" departs from Toddington station,in the hands of preserved 2-6-2 tank 5542.Designed by Collett for the Great Western Railway, the loco entered service in July 1928.Withdrawn in December 1961,the engine has spent longer in preservation than it did running for British Railways.
