Remarks & Notes
Pennsylvania Railroad E-7 Class 4-4-2 #7002.

This engine is actually #8063 (also built in 1902) but the Pennsy altered and renumbered the engine in 1939 for the World's Fair to represent the original #7002, scrapped in 1935 despite it's claim to fame as the unofficial world speed record holder achieving 127.1 mph while running through Elida, OH in 1905. Throughout the 80's the engine could be found operating next door at the Strasburg Rail Road, often double-heading with PRR 1223. Both engines were returned to the Museum in 1989 after an ultra sound revealed the metal sides of the locomotives' fireboxes became too thin to allow for further operation without a significant investment and practical extension of the lease. There was also a concern regarding the "historic fabric" of the engine which could be lost in further restoration.
