They say a photo is worth a thousand words but that's nothing compared to what 5 PRR position light signals could say. The positioning of the lights corresponded with upper-quadrant semaphore signal positions indicating anything from "stop", "proceed", "approach", and even "take a siding" or "lower pantograph".

Here we have an Amtrak HHP-8 running on the former PRR's famous Northeast Corridor at Elizabeth, NJ. The position lights will likely outlive the HHP-8's as they have the GG-1.
