SAL's Charleston-Hamlet main was relegated to second-class status after the merger, but it was an interesting, photogenic line. The long timber trestle over Goose Creek was one of many on the line, and well illustrates what was charming to the casual observer, but anathema to managers trying to run a railroad efficiently.
