Engine #4587 makes a reverse move in the yard. The rough-riding 2-10-0's were not favorites of Pennsy crews but part of their longevity was due to their ability to haul heavy loads. This one has the long-distance tender with the "doghouse" on the rear for the front end breakman stationed there. Lurking past the engine in the distance are the shop buildings where exotic PRR 1st generation diesels were serviced, those pics are searchable in this database. Today the yard is mostly greenspace in this onetime railroad town, a picturesque village known mostly for it's fall foliage festival. The population was around 4,000 at this time, now closer to 1,200.
