On its late afternoon journey across the desert Southwest from Los Angeles, Amtrak's eastbound Southwest Chief knocks down the T-2 Santa Fe semaphore signals protecting the interlocking of E.E. Chapelle Siding. The Santa Fe built semaphore signals once guided many passenger and freight trains across the Raton Pass. Today, with freight traffic discontinued, Amtrak's Southwest Chief is the only train that traverses the scenic Pass, twice each day on it's transcontinental trek from Chicago to Los Angeles.
