Remarks & Notes
The regular passenger train of the Ba-Shi Railway passes through the scenic Sichuan countryside. It is bound for the village of Bagou where the railway terminates and serves a small coal mine. These passenger cars were very spartan compared to anything in the West, with no glass windows, and only steel shutters to keep out the rain. Also there were no air brakes on the train, so each car has a conductor whose duty was to tighten the single axle handbrake for downgrades and station stops. This means of stopping could be quite harrowing sometimes on the 3.9% grades of this 762mm gauge railway. Now these regular passenger trains are only a memory, as tourist trains with blue coaches and green locomotives now run all of the trains in Shibanxi.
