Remarks & Notes
CNW 6706 rests at the end of a long string of stored C628's in the new ore yard at Escanaba. After being stored in December of 1986 the Alcos spent quite awhile in the number six ore yard with derelict ore cars that were awaiting the torch. Sometime in late 89 or early 90 they were moved over to this location and then were sold to Pielet Brothers Iron and Scrap Metal of McCook, Ill. for scrapping in September of 1990. By the time of this photo after nearly three and a half years of outside storage at Escanaba it was probably doubtful they could have been made to operate again anyway. Showing the effects of long term storage the 6706 has truly seen better days.

There are times when many engines, cars or cabooses are concentrated in a location. Such sites are for storage, economic reasons, active power needs or for rebuilding. For others, wear and tear have brought their usefulness to and end.
