Remarks & Notes |
The last of the evening light fades away at the early hour of 5:45 PM on a chilly December night along the Greenbrier River Valley. The signal at CP "Wiggins" stands guard protecting eastbound movements out of Hinton and westbound movements approaching the yard. The C&O phone box in the foreground was used as a way for crews to communicate with the Alleghany dispatcher and Hinton yardmaster in the C&O and Chessie eras. Now, it is very rare for trains to be delayed at Wiggins due to nearby grade crossings. The phone box, still connected to power will soon fall a victim to the ongoing change of time as the signal is slated for removal in early 2013. |
