Forward! After a brief break to allow guest photographers to snowshoe ahead of the train, White Pass Superintendent Ed Hanousek motions to the Engineers on the pusher locomotives to resume the charge toward Fraser. Here at MP 23.7, just about 4 miles north of White Pass, the train is coming out of an area of particularly deep drifts. Note that the intake on the rotary is sitting in about 6 feet of snow, but the snow beside Engine 73 right behind it is at least a couple of feet higher. Behind the 73, Engine 69 is buried up to the cab. Only the cupola of the trailing Combine 211 is visible above the snow at the rear of the train. Going north from here, the snow will not typically be so deep. For the most part, the next 4 miles to Fraser will be 2-3 feet at most. Beyond Fraser however, there will be a few spots with very deep drifts that will slow the train considerably, and prevent it from making its ultimate destination of Bennett before dark.
