The grade up to the interchange at Watson brought Southern Indiana Railroad (SIND) No. 103 to its knees with the heavy cars of cement on August 10, 2012. We were able to “chase” the train on foot to the CSX interchange. The train stalled once, and a crewman got off and kicked the sander pipes to get sand flowing and wheels turning once again. SIND is a small railroad servicing a cement plant that operates from Sellersburg to the interchange with CSX at Watson, Indiana. They operate with two rebuilt Alco switches, now fitted with 600-horsepower Cummins diesel engines, on former interuban right-of-way.
