In the late evening autumn light, two 'boxcar logo' AC's struggle upgrade with 150 cars of West Virginia coal destined for Pier 9 in Newport News. In full throttle, and sand applied, it's a difficult pull, traversing the Alleghany mountains from Ronceverte to the summit at Alleghany. The Ronceverte helper, while not pictured is assisting on the rear. The helper will continue to shove to the summit just east of Tuckahoe, before returning west. Once successfully climbing over the summit, the eastbound drag will glide through Moss Run, Covington, and into Clifton Forge.
This is dedicated (with permission) to the skilled and gifted photographer - Chase Gunnoe - who regularly posts and is on staff with RP. I believe he deserves a gallery showcasing his remarkable photos. This is for you Chase! (More great photos to come!)
