| Remarks & Notes |
| The world's largest diesel locomotive, a Union Pacific's DDA40X, leads an eastbound intermodal train at Hermosa, Wyoming, in July 1984. Trailing No. 6913 are three new Norfolk Southern GE C39-8s. Nicknamed “Centennial” after the 100 year anniversary of the Gold Spike in 1969, these massive 8-axle locomotives are unique to UP, and are powered with twin 645E3A engines that produced a total of 6,600 horsepower. |
