In the midst of thunderstorms old Number 2 sits simmering on the turntable outside the train shed. Greg has just turned on the air compressor to pump up some air for the brakes. Upon attaining enough steam pressure to move the locomotive I had eased it out of the shed using the reverser to let it settle on the turntable rails where they have a bit of give to them (the red metal posts prevent too much give) where the brakeman had chained it while it finished steaming up to operating pressure, and it's now time to run around the coaches sitting at the station and couple up. The turntable, like its partner at the other end of the line, is homemade from the swing bearing of an old Cat excavator. When the loco is centered on it the rails lift off the posts and one person can spin it by hand, although the one at the other end is a bit stiffer and requires two man-power to operate.
