Remarks & Notes
Tucked inside Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, across from one of the largest and coolest HO layouts ever, is this little steam locomotive with quite a story of it's own which goes something like this: The World Record holder of the time, with an unofficial speed of 112.5 mph, on May 10, 1893. No other wheeled vehicle had made it to the 100 mph mark, and didn't beat the record for another 10 years. The 999 was retired from mainline service in May 1952 and donated to the museum in 1962. Couldn't imagine running 112.5 m.p.h. down the mainline in this.
